Father Dr. Hubert Dopf S.J. (* 1921)

Professor of Gregorian Chant at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna
Born in 1921 in Upper Austria, Dr. Dopf applies for many years as "the doyen of Gregorianikfachleute" in Austria.
His activities as a professor of the department of church music at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna and its versatile use in the service of the "Musica Sacra" have brought him great international prestige. Equally versed in theory and practice, but also open to everything new, he cared even after his retirement for a strong impulse with respect to the preservation of Gregorian chant as a traditional cultural property.
Between 1973 and 1995 was responsible for the artistic supervision of Dopf Choralschola the Vienna Hofburg Chapel ([a4665400]), and he owes the Schola the rise to an internationally respected specialist ensemble with exemplary credible interpretation of the Gregorian chant as a highly developed art of unanimous chant.
The resulting under his CDs were awarded by internationally recognized experts with the highest praise. In the newly published 1997 6-part CD series "Gregorian Chant for the Church Year" (Philips Classics), etc. An overview of the liturgy of the hours of the liturgical year is mediated with the selected measurement chants, hymns.
