Brazilian songwriter, electric and acoustic guitarist, arranger, and singer.

He began his career on the stages of Belo Horizonte in 1966, where he met [a=Milton Nascimento], with whom he participated in the Minas Gerais musicians’ movement that became world-renowned as Clube da Esquina.

In 1969, Nelson joined Quarteto Livre with [a=Geraldo Azevedo], [a=Naná Vasconcelos], and [a=Franklin da Flauta]. He also participated in the group [a571460], led by [a=Luiz Eça], alongside Naná, [a=Joyce], and [a317190]. The group recorded the album Luiz Eça Y La Familia Sagrada in Mexico in 1970.

In 1971, Nelson Angelo, Joyce, Naná, [a=Novelli], and [a=Toninho Horta] founded the group A Tribo, which launched a compact on the [l=Odeon] label. That same year he recorded [m466474], an album which has gained cult status around the world.

In Europe, he recorded the album [m624137] in 1973, the same year he produced [r5822844], in which he also performed as an instrumentalist.

Nelson Angelo composed several emblematic songs in Milton Nascimento’s career in the 1970s, including “Fazenda”, “Simples”, and “Canoa Canoa” (the latter with [a=Fernando Brant]), in addition to “Testamento” and “Sacramento”, with Milton himself.

In the 1980s he joined the group [a=Turma do Funil], alongside [a=Francis Hime], [a318934], [a=Danilo Caymmi], Novelli, [a=Cristina Buarque], Lula, and [a=Olivia Hime] and participated in [a=Clube do Samba], created by [a=João Nogueira].

As an instrumentalist, besides the work with Clube da Esquina, Nelson recorded with [a=Elis Regina], [a=Luiz Gonzaga], [a=Dori Caymmi], [a=Nana Caymmi], [a=Edu Lobo], Chico Buarque, [a=Gonzaguinha], [a=Johnny Alf], [a=Sérgio Mendes], [a=Sarah Vaughan], and [a=Antonio Carlos Jobim]. Tom Jobim and Miúcha recorded “Tiro Cruzado”, which Nelson wrote with [a=Marcio Borges].

Nelson Angelo composed more than 50 songs with the poet [a=Cacaso].

Other outstanding albums by this composer include Mineiro pau (1984), [r5926484] (1990), [r11011171] (2002), and Minas Em Meu Coração (2008). Rocinante is releasing the album [m2428018] in which Nelson Angelo revisits songs from various periods in his career, approaching them in a new and unique manner – Nelson is always creating.
