Zelma Davis is a singer born in Liberia, 1970.
She's known for being one of the main vocalists from the grammy-nominated group [a=C + C Music Factory], who has won several awards including four AMAs, five Billboard Music Awards and two MTV VMAs. In 1990, they released their debut single "Gonna Make You Sweat" with Zelma Davis starred on the music video as the singer. However, this originated a huge controversy because it turned out that Zelma wasn't actually singing the track but miming to it. The real singer was [a=Martha Wash], who successfully sued the group for using the vocals that she had previously recorded without giving her any credits and without her consent.
Zelma provided the vocals on the following singles of the album, such as "Here We Go (Let's Rock & Roll)", "Things That Make You Go Hmmm..." and "Just a Touch of Love" which highlight her powerful vocals and take her to a whole new level on the project as she was able to prove that she can actually sing.
The 2nd C + C Music Factory album, "Anything Goes!", had the participation of Zelma as well, along with many other singers, including [a=Martha Wash] (this time being properly credited for her vocal contributions), [a=Deborah Cooper] and the group [a=Trilogy]. The lead single "Do You Wanna Get Funky" features Zelma Davis and Martha Wash singing together and it peaked at number 1 on Billboard's Dance Chart. The album had two more singles: "Take A Toke", sung by [a=Trilogy], and "I Found Love". Zelma participated on those two tracks as well by providing backing vocals on "Take A Toke" and lead vocals on "I Found Love".
Nowadays Zelma lives a quiet life, although she has released some material as a solo artist after leaving C + C Music Factory, including the song "I'm Calling (Say It Loud)" which was included on the soundtrack for the documentary film "When We Were Kings" in 1997. Her last public appearence was in 2017 in the TV series "Dr. Ken".
