In the early 90's, Okihiko Sugano listened to the sound of a CD that was becoming completed, and for the purpose of determining the listening environment by audiophiles, the music with excellent sound quality from the state-of-the-art digital recording of the former Philips. Originating from the release of the compilation CD "Stereo Sound Reference Record Vol.1 / Okihiko Sugano Selection", which was selected and composed from 14 CD titles. Now the various works such as the "Audio masterpiece series", "High resolution master sound series", "Critics series", and "Analog record Collections" are released.
The feature of this series is that it is not just a collection of masterpieces. The enclosed booklet even mentions the highlights of audio playback and the difficulty of playing it. They should be very useful indicators for audio. If the recorded music can be played back smoothly and in a well-balanced manner on your audio system.
These works are still widely used as audition software in Stereo Sound magazine and the magazine of the Kingdom of Tube, or as a guideline for sound creation by designers and engineers of audio makers around the world.
ステレオサウンド社が1990年代初頭より発売してきた『ステレオサウンドリファレンスレコード』。
本シリーズは90年代初頭、熟成を極めつつあったCDの音を菅野沖彦氏がオーディオファイルの再生環境を見極める目的で、旧フィリップスの最先端のデジタル録音のなかから音質的に優れた楽曲を、14枚のCDの中から選曲・構成したコンピレーションCD『Vol.1旧フィリップス 菅野沖彦 選曲・構成』の発売を起源として、現在では、オーディオ名盤シリーズ、ハイレゾマスターサウンドシリーズ、クリティックスシリーズ、アナログレコードコレクションなど様々な作品に展開しています。
アナログ録音の手法を引き継ぎながらも、当時の最新デジタル録音機器を駆使して収録・制作された楽曲の数々は、現代のオーディオシステムで再生しても色彩感に溢れる音を届けてくれることでしょう。本シリーズの特徴は、単なる名曲集ではないところ。同封される冊子では、オーディオ再生の聴きどころや再生の難しさにまで言及。それらはオーディオを極めてゆくうえで大いに役立つ指標となるはずです。
これらの作品は、ステレオサウンド誌や管球王国の誌面上で試聴ソフトとして、あるいは世界各地のオーディオメーカーの設計者やエンジニアの音づくりの指針として、現在も広く使用されています。
