Audio Services Ltd. (ASL) operated a UK pressing plant of the same name, located in Haggerston, London.
In its peak it operated 13 Toolex Alpha AD12 12" presses and 2 7" presses.
Pressings (please tag accordingly) can be recognised by the presence of a six-pointed asterisk ( ✱ ) in the deadwax. The asterisk indicates that a lacquer was furnished for plating and pressing to be done by ASL. However, when another plant is credited (e.g. MPO), use Mastered At only.
Do not confuse the asterisk with *-J.T.S.-* (for JTS Studios).
History of the company:
Originally established in April 1973 as Immediate Sound Services Ltd., it was bought out by the Management and additional shareholders in 1987.
Renamed ASL (and established as a standalone legal entity) on 14 June 1989.
In June 1994 Lambourne Productions Limited, which already had a 50% stake, bought the other 50% from Pete Waterman.
In July 1996 Zomba acquired Pinnacle/Windsong and in May 1997, Lambourne renamed itself to Pinnacle Entertainment Ltd.
With the acquisition of Zomba by Bertelsmann in 2002, ASL became part of the Bertelsmann AG.
In 2004 ASL was integrated into Sonopress UK but kept the name.
In September 2006. Optimal Media Production through its UK affiliate Optimal Media UK Ltd., acquired the vinyl manufacturing of ASL from Sonopress. All manufacturing equipment was then transferred to the Optimal plant in Röbel by end of 2006. ASL (now doing business as Audio Services London) remained as distribution and client service centre for Optimal UK until 2018.
The company (still owned by Sonopress UK) became dormant per 01 January 2008, applied for voluntary strike-off in November 2010 and was dissolved in March 2011.
