  • American Rock'n'Roll and Pop music compilaton series covering the years 1955-1970 released by Increase Records. Each album of the series tries to be an authentic ca. 40-minutes recreation of a contemporary radio station from that year. This included contemporary ads, station jingles, and a radio DJ from that era introducing each song, reading out local news, and inviting the listeners to join in competitions. The series (not all parts on all media) was available on vinyl, 8-track, cassettes and CD. The later CD-Releases had different tracklists in some parts.

Original releases were in 1970 the years 56-62; in 1972 the years 55 + 63 and in 1973 the years 64-67. There were several reissues of the most parts. The original release series from the 1970s had 13 parts, followed by much later further parts in form of "Cruisin' 1968" and "Cruisin' 1969" in 1988 and "Cruisin 1970" in 1995 (cd only). Some compilations on CD put together several compilations of the series or created similar ideas under the same title "Crusin'..."

"Cruisin'..." series producer Ron Jacobs monitored thousands of feet of tape, travelled over 10,000 miles and rooted through forgotten files and cluttered basements for old commercials, station promos and jingles. He also managed to get clearances for 84 different records, of which 42 are certified million-sellers, and all are from the Top 30 of their respective years. The disk jockeys who appear on the series were picked after a month of carefully researching a decade's issues of BILLBOARD, including tabulating all disk jockey mentions. The names were then cross checked with audience rating services and longtime radio expert Bill Gavin--all this just to determine with jocks on which stations represented each year most accurately.

The cover concept forms a story about two characters over all original "Cruisin'..." covers, creating a sort of comic strip on 16 album covers in a row. It was decided to take a young couple and age them through each year, noting carefully the changes in dress and hair styles, as well as social attitudes.
