Connoisseur Series

- A division of World Record Club, active in Australia and New Zealand in the 1960s and early 1970s. (A follow on from World Record Connoisseur Series). Although its name includes the word "Series", it functioned more or less as a label in its own right, and it is best to use the catalogue number with the label when listing submissions.
Australia
In Australia, the series was active between 1963 and 1971, when it was replaced by the more plebeian Retrospect Series. LPs released were usually of an earlier vintage and/or of esoteric folk music. The catalogue numbers used were between 3000 and 3200. Many of the earlier releases were reissued during the last couple of years - first pressings can be identified by the addresses used on the back of the sleeve. Earlier pressings used a plain gold circle with a white outline, which in later years was replaced by a version of the 'herald' label, in rich gold colours. The earlier pressings have the prefix "CE", which was dropped in late 1968. When cassettes were introduced, they did not carry the Connoisseur (or Retrospect) Series branding, and were issued on the World Cassette Club label.
New Zealand
New Zealand being more conservative than Australia, the change to Retrospect Series occurred later, as did many of the changes World Record Club initiated. Connoisseur Series albums were still being issued there at the end of the 1970s.
