The Great Composers And Their Music

- A part-work series released under the Marshall Cavendish label, started circa 1983 - focusing on major classical works. Not to be confused with the later series The Great Composers.
The German counterpart of this series is: Grosse Komponisten Und Ihre Musik.
The French counterpart of this series is: Les Grands Compositeurs Et Leur Musique.
This series and catalog numbering is inconsistent, confusion resulting from different releases of the series:
1st Series Issue: Vinyl and Cassette – c. 1983
2nd Series Issue: CD – c. 1990
Most of the series came with booklets relating to the musical release, with information on the music and composer. From 1995 a 3rd Series was issued packaged in a CD 'Fat Box' as part of the The Great Composers series.
The series was released in parts representing broad classical categories:
Parts 1 to 20 – Romantic Era
Parts 21 to 32 – Baroque and Classical Music
Parts 33 to 42 – The Age of Nationalism
Parts 43 to 52 – The Twentieth Century
Parts 53 to 65 – The Great Operas
Parts SP1 to ? – (Thematic Specials)
The series featured major classical composers including Piotr Illitch Tchaïkovsky, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and many more.
