Lisa Stansfield's first recordings didn't take place with Coldcut (People Hold On) or with Blue Zone, but in the early 80s, when as a teenager, on the strength of winning a singing contest and appearing singing in a TV show, she signed a record deal. This resulted in 4 vinyl singles released in 1982 and 1983. These early recordings (and other tracks apparently from the same early sessions) were collected and released on CD in the mid-90s, after she had established herself as a major artist. While 8 tracks not from the singles are included, the A-side of the 4th single, "I Got A Feeling", is not - apparently for copyright reasons, as the song is a cover of the Holland–Dozier–Holland song.

Mixes of "More Than Love" and "Make Sure That The Feelin's Right" on "In Session" are different to those on "Her Early Recordings".
