1956-'57
First album by Sun Ra and his Arkestra, recorded July 12, 1956 at [l=Universal Recording Studio] in Chicago. Produced by [a=Tom Wilson (2)] for his short-lived [l=Transition] label, the album was released in 1957. A booklet was included filled with poems and musings by Sun Ra dealing with his compositions and techniques
1967
Wilson, moving away from jazz, sold the original tapes to [a=Robert G. Koester] who produced the reissue for his [l=Delmark Records] label, with a new release title "Sun Song", new artwork by graphic designer [a=Sylvia Abernathy] and liner notes by [a=J.B. Figi] replacing Ra's precious texts
1990
Delmark first CD release, restoring Sun Ra's original notes as well as including the composition "Swing A Little Taste" from the same session not on the original album, but issued on the 1956-ish Transition sampler [r4729661]
Note: from the same session or later, perhaps Nov. 1956, equally produced by Wilson, enough material for a second volume was recorded, but remaining unreleased until 1968, see [m143600]
