Zru Vogue is a postpunk avant-pop band formed in Palo Alto, California in 1980, when three friends from the San Francisco underground scene began experimenting with pop music by blending African tribal and Middle Eastern rhythms, ambient, and British-influenced avant-garde rock with dada sensibilities, minimal electronics, and funk-rock guitars.

Zru Vogue’s first single “Nakweda Dream” was released by independent San Francisco label Adolescent Records in February 1981. "Nakweda Dream" was a college radio hit. The record's B-side, "Cumulonimbus" (spelled out phonetically on the record sleeve), was an atmospheric percussion-heavy experimental track described by England's New Musical Express as a "neo-African avalanche," that also received widespread airplay on college radio. "Nakweda Dream/Cumulonimbus" received critical acclaim in the alternative press, including Sub-pop who named it the best independent single of 1981.

Zru Vogue became a duo in 1982 (Andrew Jackson and Rick Cuevas), with various "guest artists" joining them. In 1985, the group took a break to focus on solo recordings. Zru Vogue resumed writing and recording as a duo in 2002 and since then has recorded and released many albums of new material. The current line-up includes Patrick Coyne on drums with Andrew Lawrence Jackson and Rick Cuevas on all other instruments and vocals.
