Clifford Thornton

American trumpeter and cornetist, born September 6, 1936. Died November 25th, 1989.
Worked with [a=Ray Draper] 1956-1957, performed and recorded with [a=Sun Ra] in early 1960s, worked with [a=Pharoah Sanders] 1963-1967, recorded with [a=Marzette Watts] c. 1964. Formed the New Arts Ensemble in 1967, performed and recorded with [a=Dave Burrell] and [a=Sunny Murray] in Paris 1969 and with [a=Archie Shepp] and own band 1969-1970. In 1976 he became an educational counselor at the African American Institute, an organization supported by UNESCO.
