Mark Pekarsky (b. 1940) is a Russian percussionist, conductor, founder of [url=https://discogs.com/artist/761240]Mark Pekarsky Ensemble of Percussion Instruments[/url], musical educator and professor of [l=Moscow Conservatory]. He graduated from the Gnesin State Musical Institute in 1969, and has been actively performing on various percussion instruments for the most part of his life. Since 1997, he works as a professor at Moscow Conservatory, and also teaches at Gnesin School.

Pekarsky worked with [url=https://discogs.com/artist/2138208]Madrigal[/url] ensemble from 1965 to 1990, and organized his highly successful Percussion Ensemble in 1976. As a solo percussionist, he played with [a=Dresden Symphony Orchestra], [a=Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra], [a=The Turin Symphony Orchestra], [a=Netherlands Radio Philharmonic], [a=Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra], [a=Minsk Chamber Orchestra], [a=The Ural Philharmonic Orchestra], [url=https://discogs.com/artist/838295]Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra[/url], and many other ensembles.

He organized many unique events and art festivals: [i]In The Beginning Was The Rhythm[/i] (1991) featuring world-famous khomus (Yakut jew's harp) performer [url=https://discogs.com/artist/4599886]Ivan Alekseyev[/url], performance [i]Listening Attentively to Mayakovsky[/i] (1995) for the centennial jubilee celebrations of a legendary poet in Rome, workshops on [a=Sofia Gubaidulina]'s percussion compositions in Switzerland and Japan in 1997, [i]Opus XX[/i] festival in Latvia (1998), international festival [i]Pekarsky Percussion Days[/i] in Moscow (since 2003), [i]Musical Landscapes[/i] festivals at [l=DOM Cultural Centre] (2005-2006).
