In 1931 Electric & Musical Industries Ltd.(EMI) is formed through the merger of parent Columbia Graphophone Company Ltd. and The Gramophone Co. Ltd. Following the merger the operations of Columbia Graphophone (Aust.) Ltd. and The Gramophone Co. Ltd. (2) are brought together under one administrative control with the record production plant of both companies being centralised at Homebush. During the war years the Homebush factory undertook extensive work on electronic devices for the Australian services and the output of the factory provided an important contribution to the Australian defence effort.
In 1948 proprietary company E.M.I. (Australia) Pty. Limited is formed to takeover the activities of these two branches and becomes the principal company behind Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. Australian operations.
