Aarhus Kongreshus

- Aarhus Kongreshus, sometimes referred to simply as Kongreshuset, was a Danish culture and congress venue in central Aarhus. Build in 1880 by the freemasons, it was bought in 1907 by the local unions. After extension in 1909 it was baptized Arbejdernes Forsamlingsbygning. Further extended with a 600 seats concert hall and renamed into Folkets Hus in 1939, it finally became Århus Kongreshus in 1968. In 1973 Aarhus By-Orkester moved in and made the concert hall their permanent residence. Following economic difficulties, it was sold by the unions in May 2005, closed down in 2006 and converted to office buildings, shops and private housing.
