PolyGram Manufacturing & Distribution Centre. Active from 19 April 1996 until 28 March 1999.
UK manufacturing and distribution company, operating a CD pressing plant based in Blackburn.
PMDC, UK CDs are identifiable by MADE IN UK BY PMDC or MADE IN THE UK BY PMDC hub text and the mould SID code IFPI 04xx. The SID code alone should not be used to add the plant to a release, though.
Previously this plant was owned by PDO, UK (Philips Dupont Optical) and in 1999 it became Universal M & L, UK.
It is possible that pressings with PMDC identifiers also say Made in the U.K. by PDO because the original glass masters were simply re-used. In this case add:
Glass Mastered At - PDO, UK and
Made By - PMDC, UK.
It is also possible that post-PMDC pressings/reissues carry PMDC identifiers because the glass masters were simply re-used by the new owners.
PMDC, UK inherited unique numbering system from PDO:
XYYYYYYZ NN (e.g. 10133491 01 or 20133491 01 %)
where X = disc number and Z = number of discs in the set,
YYYYYY = sequential manufacturing number,
NN = 01 to 09, 10, 11, etc. (potentially the glass master number).
The pattern was valid for all discs types (CD, CD-Single, CD-Mini, or CDV).
Only add XYYYYYYZ as LCCN catalog number.
For 2xCD editions add Made By - PMDC, UK twice with one number each.
That numbering system was dropped in June 1998. After that they used:
cat## plus 01 % or & pattern.
