German record label for EBM, Electro-Industrial, Dark Electro and Synthpop music. It was founded in early 1989 by Andreas Tomalla (a.k.a. Talla 2XLC) after leaving Techno Drome International and cancelling the contract with ZYX Records. The label's name 'Zoth Ommog' was taken from a character in Lin Carter's 'Xothic Legend Cycle', based on the Cthulhu Mythos of H.P. Lovecraft.
After Talla decided to go for a more Trance/Techno direction with the labels Suck Me Plasma, Technoclub Records and Tetsuo the record label was handed over to the A&R control of Sven Freuen. When Freuen decided to leave Zoth Ommog in 1994, the label was run by Alexander Hergenhahn for a short period (about 7 month) before it was taken over by Torben Schmidt (Lights Of Euphoria) in 1995 (later founder of Infacted Recordings) who brought the label back to former strength by signing acts such as Funker Vogt, Front 242, Numb, Front Line Assembly, In Strict Confidence and Decoded Feedback.
After two years, Dennis Ostermann (In Strict Confidence) was added to the label as its promoter. Schmidt and Ostermann left the label in late 1998 right before it went under in late 1999. The last A&R for Zoth Ommog were Andreas Lechleiter and Vernon Baur with only releasing 4 CDs within the last 12 months of the label's existence. Some of the artists went to Zoth Ommog's unofficial successor Bloodline
The labels Metropolis and Cleopatra re-released a number of Zoth Ommog albums in the U.S.
From the ZOT CD 100 ([r133330]) the label uses the following format of the catalogue number for all releases (Maxis, EPs, LPs): CD ZOT XXX.
Therefore the last "below-100" Zoth Ommog release is [r152081] (ZOT CD 19).
