The year of release can often be determined based on the catalogue number as the year of release is mostly present in the catalogue number. Up until approx. 1992 all cat# had the following format:
MARL 09YYZZ XX
Where YY represented the year of release, ZZ was a serial number and XX represented the format.
XX could be:
S: 7" vinyl single
CD: CD release
Often the letters "MARL" were omitted, or repleaced by Marlstone.
MARL 099043 S is a 7" vinyl single from 1990.
As of approx. 1992, the following system is used. All catalogue numbers have the following structure:
XXX YYZZ
Where XXX is an indication for the format of the release, YY is an indication for the year of release and ZZ is an incremental serial number.
XXX can be:
CDS: CD-single
CDL: CD album
MCL: Cassette album
DVD: DVD
and the YYZZ part can be:
