Sun Plastics Company, Inc.

  • О лейбле:
  • Record pressing plant (and latterly a CD/cassette manufacturer) located in East Newark, New Jersey that operated from 1946 to 2009.
Sun Plastics and its subsidiary Dynamic was a three-generation family-owned company run by Jerry R. Salerno before he retired in early 2009. Industry publications list Victoria M. Salerno as sales manager and Marcy M. Salerno as director of operations.
The company was founded in 1946 with Moe Silvers recorded as President in its early years (and Jerry Salerno as VP) and established a reputation for its quick service. Its website, launched in 2002, described the company as "home of the 10 day turnaround".
According to Billboard, the company moved from a 15-press plant at North Arlington, New Jersey to a new 25-press plant at 900 Passaic Avenue in East Newark in June 1950.
Famously, Sun Plastics very rarely marked the records they pressed, although some can be identified by Sun P or S ¬P hand-etched in the runouts.
From the late 1980s to early 2000s, Jerry Salerno ran freestyle/house label Metropolitan Recording Corporation and its subsidiaries from the same address as Sun Plastics/Dynamic.
The company was known as Dynamic Sun in its later years and registered a website with this name in January 2002. The site featured the Def Jam Recordings, VP Records, Roc-A-Fella Records and MAW Records logos on its home page, referenced Virgin, Epic, Blackground Records, Bad Boy Entertainment and West End Records and included testimonials from other labels including Rawkus.
Jerry sold the presses, some dating back to the 1960s, to Vince Slusarz from Gotta Groove Records in early 2009, when Sun Plastic's lease came up for renewal and Jerry chose to retire from the vinyl manufacturing business. According to Vince Slusarz, the presses and associated equipment were transported to Cleveland, Ohio in March 2019 on the back of four flatbed trucks. One press was dropped and damaged en route. The presses were re-activated and operational from August 2009, with help from Sun Plastics' former plant manager.
