Swedish record company and publisher, founded in summer 1963 by Stig Anderson and Bengt Bernhag (d. 13.7.1971). From April 1975, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson owned 50 per cent of Polar Music, with Stig controlling the other half of the company. A couple of years later, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad acquired equal shares of Björn and Benny’s half, so that each of the four members of ABBA then owned 12.5 percent of Polar. Polar Music AB was restructured in ca. 1977 and was henceforth known formally as Polar Music International AB.
By the end of 1984, the four ABBA members sold their shares in the record company. In 1990, Polar Music International AB was sold to PolyGram.
