- Det Fynske Musikkonservatorium (English: Carl Nielsen Academy Of Music) is a Danish music academy founded 1929 in Odense, Denmark. In January 2010, it was merged with Vestjysk Musikkonservatorium, Esbjerg, and the Odense Teater acting school to form Syddansk Musikkonservatorium & Skuespillerskole. In 2015, the acting school was separated, and the institution was renamed "Syddansk Musikkonservatorium (SDMK) - Danish National Academy of Music".
History
Det Fynske Musikkonservatorium was founded in 1929 by the violinist Martin Andersen (1886-1987), who was also the conservatory's leader until 1963. The conservatory started as a privately owned institution. In 1944 it became a self-governing institution, in 1963 a public educational institution, and in 1972 it was taken over by the state (Ministry of Cultural Affairs).
The conservatory started under small conditions in [u]Albanigade 5[/u]. In 1954 it moved to a villa at [u]Kronprinsensgade 19[/u]. In 1976, the conservatory moved to a former shirt factory in [u]Islandsgade 2[/u], which was later expanded to an area of approx. 2500 m2, including a large concert hall with room for an audience of 250 people. After the 2010 merger, and the rename in 2015, Syddansk Musikkonservatorium moved to new builded premises in the music, theater and conference venue "Odeon" in 2017.
