Ron's Piece:
This piece was specially composed for Ron to play on his saxophone in orbit and was to become the first musical piece played and recorded in space. Ron was so excited about this piece that he rehearsed it continuously in quarantine whilst preparing the mission. May the memory of my friend, the astronaut and the musician, Ron McNair live on through this music. Jean-Michel Jarre.
Remark:
This pressing, with matrix/runout A0102416645-0101 15, is made from a defective master with semitone pitch-bender faults on track 2 at around 16 seconds in with pitch changes and with the actual sound quality itself becoming slightly muffled. This fault occurs again around 3:52 and again at 5:23.
Current findings reveal that another pressing with the following matrix sayings:
Sony Music Logo 57326389/888750446362 21 IFPI LP 73 (and Mould IFPI 077Z), seems to be a reissue with the same faulty problems from the above mentioned problematic pressing.
It has been reported that the Original Album Classics box, in which basically induces one to think that it is a "corrected" version fixed by Dave Dadwater, is, in fact, the Scott Hull Masterdisk source master. So, getting that box, you will have this ugly duckling among the new recent remasters (you may enjoy the 1997 remasters or you may not, depending on the album). Make no mistake, the Rendez-Vous disk in OAC box is a dirty "fix". It is the 1997 source with loudness tweaking only.
Sony Music subsequently issued a corrected master (see [r=7279062]) with matrix/runout A0102467490-0101 12 A00.
