  • SM is an optical disc manufacturer from Singapore. Formerly it also owned manufacturing plants in Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, and China, as well as a representative office in Japan. The company was active from 1981. In 2014, DW (2) (Discworld) took over manufacturing in Australia.

    Timeline
1981: Incorporated in Singapore to provide audio cassette duplication
1988: Manufacturing plant opened in Malaysia
1991: CD manufacturing begins in Singapore
1995: CD manufacturing plant opened in Waterloo, Sydney, Australia (initially credited as SMA)
1999: DVD manufacturing begins in Singapore; insert paper and packaging in Australia
2003: DVD manufacturing begins in Australia; representative office set up in Tokyo, Japan
2004: CD manufacturing plant acquired in Jakarta, Indonesia (had been managed by Summit since 2002)
2005: Australian plant Digital Audio Technologies Australia acquired; existing SM Australia machinery relocated from Waterloo to Silverwater, Sydney, Australia; Malaysia manufacturing plant divested - continued as GSB Summit CD (M) Sdn. Bhd..
2005-06: CD manufacturing plant acquired (49%) in Shanghai, China; relocated to Songjiang, Shanghai

In October 2011, SM Summit resumed trading under the name Centurion Corporation Limited ("Centurion"), and focus turned to expanding operations outside of optical disc manufacturing, including a large number of student and workers accommodation buildings through South East Asia, Australia and beyond.

In April 2014, it was announced that the Australian incorporated company Summit Technology Australia Pty Ltd, as well as its manufacturing plant and equipment, was to be sold to Discworld Pty Ltd. Discworld has continued optical disc production since then as DW (2).

    Matrix numbers
During the 1990s, 4 or 5 digit catalogue numbers were assigned and shown in the CD matrix area. This numbering format was also employed by the Australian plant while as SMA. For example:
    [r4806517]
    Matrix: SM 3136 CS00033

More recently, a 10 digit number beginning with 61 has been employed for Australian releases. It is usually accompanied by an SM logo in the matrix, but not always. For example:
    [r10462584]
    Matrix: 5186571512 6111101359 [SM logo] ifpi LR11

    SID codes
    ifpi LR11
    IFPI L471, L472, L473, L478, L479 and L480

IFPI 79** - Some of these can be linked to the plant in Waterloo, Sydney, Australia (1995-2005); Silverwater, Sydney (2005-present)
ifpi 2661 - Silverwater, Sydney, Australia (acquired from Digital Audio Technologies Australia, 2005)
    IFPI K4**
    IFPI RG**
